The Dodgers are on the brink of elimination after losing Game 4 to the Atlanta Braves. Los Angeles is now down 3 games to 1 in their best-of-five series.
The dodgers score today is a headline from ESPN that talks about how the Dodgers are on the brink of elimination after the Braves roughed up Urías in Game 4.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — When Julio Uras entered the mound for the fourth time in 12 days, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a lot of questions for him.
Despite the fact that Uras was the only 20-game winner in baseball this season, the Dodgers employed him in three different positions in the last week. Uras and the Dodgers said it was nothing he couldn’t manage, but when he faced the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series, the left-hander was out of sync and missing out on his usual between-starts preparation.

By the time Uras exited the Dodger Stadium bump with a five-run deficit on Wednesday night, it was obvious that Los Angeles was expecting too much — or not getting enough — from its best pitchers.
In an October effort to get the most out of its pitching staff, the Los Angeles front office is ignoring most conventional conventions — but with the Dodgers on the verge of elimination, it’s obvious those choices haven’t worked out the way Dodgers manager Andrew Friedman planned.
When Uras and Max Scherzer were asked to start in the NLCS after pitching in relief, they both struggled. When pitching on additional rest, Walker Buehler didn’t match his normal level of performance.
The Dodgers now have one last opportunity to make the right choices against the Braves, who hold a 3-1 series lead against LA for the second consecutive October and three chances to dethrone the reigning World Series champions. In Game 5, the Dodgers will face elimination for the fourth time in these playoffs.
Uras gave up three single homers in the first two innings, all on low-90s four-seam fastballs, before being hit for two more runs in the fifth. He gave up eight hits and only struck out three batters with his fastball velocity somewhat lower than normal.

Whether it’s because of the Dodgers’ unique plan, the pitchers’ poor performances, or the Braves’ superiority, one thing is certain: the Dodgers’ top three starters haven’t performed up to par.

Scherzer couldn’t get out of the fifth inning of Game 2 in Atlanta, three days after closing off the NL Division Series in San Francisco. It was his shortest postseason start since 2011. Buehler only lasted 3 2/3 innings in Game 3 of the World Series, and he departed with the Dodgers behind.
The Dodgers had made 28 pitching changes in their previous four games by the time Game 3 ended. With a bullpen game scheduled for Game 5, Los Angeles badly needed Uras to make a strong start on short rest in Game 4.
Instead, the Braves smacked him about, putting the Dodgers on the ropes for the second year in a row.
In reality, the Dodgers’ rotation has been a shambles all season, despite their 106-win total. Even though Clayton Kershaw, Dustin May, and Trevor Bauer were important members of the rotation early in the season, the Dodgers managed to finish the season with the most quality starts in the National League.
Uras hadn’t given up three home runs in a game since his second big league appearance in 2016, but Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall, and Freddie Freeman all hit solo shots.
Uras’ playoff accomplishment is well-known among Dodgers fans: he earned the save in the team’s championship-clinching win last season, pitching 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief against Tampa Bay in Game 6 of the World Series.
However, the Dodgers have pushed Uras even further in his last three appearances: he pitched four innings in Game 5 of the NL Division Series, and then he came on in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the NLCS, giving up Atlanta’s game-tying two-run rally on a day when he would normally be doing his side work.
If the Dodgers’ high-priced lineup had been able to hit the Braves’ relievers when Atlanta was throwing a bullpen game Wednesday, their questionable pitching tactics wouldn’t have carried nearly as much weight. Instead, the Dodgers didn’t get their first hit until the fifth inning, and they only had four hits in Game 4.
And the Dodgers are continuing doubling down: Tony Gonsolin came on in the eighth inning of Game 4, restricting the regular starter’s availability Thursday night when Los Angeles faces elimination with a bullpen game — which may be a good thing, given Gonsolin’s four-run ninth inning.
