It’s been nearly three years since Forza Horizon 3 hit the shelves, and on November 2nd Microsoft released their newest entry in this quiet franchise. This is our review-in-progress of Forza Horizon 5 so stay tuned for more!
The “cogconnected” is a review-in-progress of the upcoming Forza Horizon 5. The game was released on October 2nd, 2018 and has been getting rave reviews from critics.
I hate heights. I’d definitely dissolve into dust if you put me on an aircraft. I’d be dead long before the doors opened if you placed me in a jeep aboard an aircraft and dropped it down a cargo hatch.
However, in Forza Horizon 5, things are a little different. After the first time it occurred, I couldn’t wait to jump out of an aircraft at insane speeds. Fortunately for me, I had two more opportunities, but that was just the beginning of Playground Games’ newest extravaganza.
While I haven’t spent much time at the Horizon event in Mexico yet, I can say that while Horizon 5 doesn’t do much differently than its predecessor, it doesn’t have to.
In-Progress Review of Forza Horizon 5: Speedy Spectacle
Horizon 5’s objective is to squeeze as much as possible out of one setting, and it succeeds at it. Forza Horizon 4 centers on seasons — seasonal challenges, season-themed courses, and so on — but Horizon 5’s purpose is to squeeze as much as possible out of one setting, and it excels at it.
Your stay in Mexico begins with an introductory race that teaches you the fundamentals of racing, such as when to slow down and how to maneuver the three primary vehicles. You can either be clever and obey these regulations, or you can be like me and smash into everything since Forza will repair your really costly vehicles for free. It makes no difference, and it emphasizes how open and accessible Forza Horizon 5 is.
Even though I’m a terrible driver, Forza allows me to level up, although at a slower pace than if I had won races. One of the various methods to rank up is to earn points in classic races. There’s a series of picture missions that encourage you to explore every inch of the globe, as well as a set of challenges that reward you for completing particular driving feats like drifting a certain distance or reaching maximum speeds. Or crashing often.
Because of the absence of rigorous structure, there’s no need to be perfect or just do particular things, and I’m having considerably more fun with Forza Horizon 5 than I anticipated.
I’ve also developed a stronger interest in automobiles than I ever imagined. Horizon 5 gives you a lot of automobiles to start with. At each position, there’s a good assortment of automobiles, ranging from the dependable Ford Bronco to the lightning-fast McLaren, and almost a dozen more in between. Completing challenges unlocks new automobiles, albeit you’ll almost always have to pay for them using credits gained from completing the activities.
That’s where not being a poor driver comes in useful, but there’s enough to do even if you’re simply playing about to earn enough credits.
But none of this is new to Forza. I haven’t spent enough time with it to comment on how the variety of tasks and automobiles compares to Horizon 4, but one thing I have observed so far is that the landscape falls short. Horizon 5 looks stunning, especially on Xbox One S, and the absence of excessive load times makes for a near-seamless experience.
However, at least in the first half of the huge map, there is a feeling of repetition. Desert, plains, and lush rainforests only go so far, and I’m left wanting more of the visual bouquet that was Horizon 4’s course variety.
Still, it’s a minor quibble in what is otherwise one of the greatest driving games available. Stick around because I’ll have additional ideas and a final score shortly.
