LA Marathon is set to close the streets of LA on Sunday, February 25th for its annual race. Officials are also taking measures to increase security and safety with a multi-agency effort.

The “6th street bridge construction” is a project that will close streets all over LA. The marathon will also be closed for the duration of the project.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (CBSLA) – There are numerous planned traffic closures, including a large length of the 101 Freeway and the streets that will be taken over by the LA Marathon, so Angelenos with weekend plans may want to leave the vehicle at home.

The 101 Freeway is closed on both sides between the 5 and 60 Freeway split in Boyle Heights to downtown Los Angeles. The road will be stopped for the second time to allow workmen to finish removing bridge falsework as part of the $688 million Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement Project, which will benefit Los Angeles traffic. There will also be sidewalks, bike lanes, and a 12-acre park.

The 101 Freeway will be closed starting at 10 p.m. on Friday and will remain until at least 3 p.m. on Sunday. Drivers traveling southbound on the 101 Freeway from Hollywood will be diverted to the 110 Freeway, then east to the 10 Freeway, where they will be able to rejoin the 5 Freeway. Drivers attempting to access the northbound 101 Freeway will be detoured through the 710 Freeway and the westbound 10 Freeway, where they will be able to connect to the 5 Freeway or continue into downtown LA on the 101 Freeway.

With the LA Marathon on Sunday, surface street traffic in the city will be a challenge as well. This year’s LA Marathon will begin at Dodger Stadium and go through Echo Park, Silver Lake, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood, and Brentwood before turning and finishing in Century City – a distance of over 26 miles on surface streets.

Road closures are expected to begin at 4 a.m. Sunday and extend until at least 2 p.m., although personnel will be on site to reopen roads as soon as possible. Parking will also be prohibited along the marathon’s course. For updates, drivers may follow Unified LA on Twitter.

Caltrans will also block some 101, 110, and 405 Freeway ramps and turn lanes between 1 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the marathon. The following are some of the closures:
